A lesson for James Dobson about REAL FAMILIES

Hey Dobson! FAMILIES COME IN ALL SIZES AND SHAPES. And not all will fit your narrow, bigoted idea of the perfect family.

Try telling this tigress and her pride that her family is not a REAL FAMILY:

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately,
due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny
size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health,
although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused
the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate
another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there
were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians
decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother
of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans" that could be
found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in
tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops?
Take a look...you won't believe your eyes!!

Because only bigoted old fools wouldn’t recognize that REAL FAMILIES don’t have to look exactly alike to be a family, but they do have to have lots of love.

And one more thought: how many "good Christian" families have tossed their gay children out in the street like trash because they are "different" and don't meet the Dobson specs for the perfect child?

Answer: Plenty!

While that is adorable, there's also something a little bit funny about "Ok, let's take these pigs, and try to TRICK this tiger by just wrapping them in a little tiger halloween costume..."

And funnier, the fact that it worked. ;)

I've heard about this story before, and it's absolutely amazing. I've always been curious as to why they chose piglets as the surrogates, however. I'm curious if there's something particular about that species that made them suitable or if piglets were just what was available.

Of course, the other question I have is one that will never be answered. Does the mother realize her new babies aren't tiger cubs? In some ways, I find that hard to imagine. I'd find it much more believable to suppose the maternal instinct was just so great in her that she didn't care what species her babies were. (And wouldn't that say something about the power of motherhood?!) But in the end, I suppose we'll never know for sure.

The pix are adorable, but sadly, this is an urban legend:

Well you are right, it is indeed an urban legend, but the sentiment behind the post remains the same: there is no one-size-fits-all template for a family. Families come in all sizes, shapes, colors, genders, etc. But the one thing that true families all have in common is the glue that holds them together: LOVE.

It is still noteworthy (moreso, even?) that these animals can transcend species, going so far as to nurse each other. The costumes are for show, but that tiger was indeed raised by pigs, and is indeed now raising pigs as its own.

Sadly, your seething has blinded you to reality. But I know, that's why it comes so easy for you and many others, Mom. When will you ever admit you can love a child and not his behavior, wants, actions, etc..? Is that not what God has provided for us?
