I defend the Mormons no more

There are a lot of Mormons in Arizona, so there is a high probability that if you live in this state at least one or more of your neighbors will probably be Mormon. And that was the case in our old neighborhood as well.

I've gotten to know a lot of Mormons throughout the years and I can say with complete sincerity that they have been some of the nicest people I have ever known. It was probably the biggest reason I was always one of the first to fiercely defend the religion when others would make fun or out and out attack it. I simply would not tolerate people making disparaging remarks about the religion in my presence.

But never again shall I step forward and defend the Mormon Church.

Ever since the Mormon religious leaders in Utah got themselves so hugely embroiled in California's Prop 8 battle, a ballot measure banning same-sex marriage, by supporting it with huge amounts of money and manpower, any respect I might have had for the Church has turned to sheer loathing.

Now that is not to say that I believe all Mormons are horrible people -- they certainly are not, but the Mormon church leaders are a different story. So it is actually quite a relief to learn that there is a website called I am an ex Mormon. Seems there is no shortage of people who used to call themselves Mormon who have come to see the church in a different light as well.
