National Coming Out Day is tomorrow

Oh Ugh! I really am taking a break, but I am not officially running away until tomorrow and this post is actually about something really, really important.

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of National Coming out Day. And trust me, Coming Out is one of our most powerful weapons, but as we tell people who come to our PFLAG support meetings, no one can make that decision but you. If this is not the right time for you to come out - DON'T. It is always better to wait if you are, for instance, financially dependent on your parents and you suspect they might take your news badly and kick you out to fend for yourself before you are ready. But there are any number of very valid reasons for delaying the big Coming Out Day, so don't sweat it if the time is not right for you.

But for those who are ready to reveal their authentic selves, please, please consider doing it. It is a lot harder to discriminate and hate when you know someone who is lgbt. There is no better way to kill that faceless boogieman the religious right haters use to scare-monger than by putting a face on it.
