President Bush to Campaign for Married Congressman from Pennsylvania Accused of Choking His Mistress

Well isn’t that special. The President, who made Sanctity of Marriage the issue in the 2004 elections, is going to Pennsylvania to stump for U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood, a married man accused of trying to choke his mistress of 5 years as he gave her a back rub.

If Rep. Sherwood is not the perfect poster boy for everything that is threatening marriage today then I don’t know who is. But wait! Rep. Sherwood used an undisclosed settlement to shut his ex-mistress up and make a $5.5 million federal lawsuit magically go away, so now I guess everything is hunky dory. So hunky dory that our good Christian President, who worried about gays threatening the sanctity of marriage, can go campaign for this adulterer good Christian Congressman.

My God could the irony and hypocrisy of this President and this Republican congress get any worse? Next thing you know the President will be giving a “you’re doing a heckova job” to House Speaker Denny Hastert.

I could sure use a punching bag right about now.

Update:

Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire is reporting:

In advance of a visit from President Bush, Rep. Don Sherwood (R-PA) released a new ad that acknowledges his extramarital affair.

Will it be enough? Are actions going to speak louder than words in Pennsylvania? I guess we will have to wait and see.
